I made a decision that I would vote no on any consitutional amendment this time. I don't like that the special interests are coming in from out of state and trying to change our constitution. So that covers a bunch of them excecpt 51 (YES!), 58,and 59 I think. But on 50, we disagree. 50 will increase problem gambling, and give more money to Black Hawk & Central City and casinos. I am never for anything that gives more to casinos. But that's just me. I do see the value in increase $ to community colleges - just not at this cost.
I understand...I didn't really have an opinion other than the education piece. So, if you'd like to share more about why not? I just don't have much of an opinion except that I think you might be right. I just noticed it's a constitutional amendment. Why is it a constitutional amendment?
50 is a constitutional amendment because money from gaming was designated the state to go to a different fund when gaming was allowed in Colorado and all decisions about gaming have to go to the voters. The casinos are behind 50, and in my humble opinion, the community colleges are being used by them. The gaming industry is a very dark place.
What are your local elections about? Are you re-electing anyone in the legislature? Any exciting new candidates? I'm voting to re-elect Senator Bob Bacon and Representatives (Kefalas and Fischer)...but I can't vote for these two. They've been the most accessible to the people for as long as I can remember. On a county level, we're trying to pass 1A for Mental Health Facility (drug and alcohol detox and treatment)which will help with recividism (sp). Our opposition is the sheriff's office. Go figure!
We have increasing funding for schools. Sen. Suzanne Williams is up for re-election. Then there is Karen Wilde for State Rep. (I think her name is Wilde?)
51 is NOT a constitutional amendment, folks. It is a STATUTORY amendment.
